white = i'm a walking disaster area

Why is it that when I put on white underwear and start counting I become a walking disaster area? (the same happens when I wear white tops or bottoms too, but I stopped doing that).

I look at ink and I'm covered. I look at a knife and I have a nasty cut. I get bruises everywhere (well, I do that all the time anyway). I get blisters all over my feet. My feet decide to peel everywhere.

It's as if all this stuff *knows* I'm preparing to go to mikveh and wants to make my life difficult.

At my most recent mikveh dip, my feet decided to be nice and stopped peeling, the blisters didn't pop (until after I got home) ... but the few days right before ... I was covered from head to toe in various pigments and cuts.

I am lucky that I've recently had this very nice mikveh lady who is gentle and kind about loose skin and nails. I've gotten lucky and by the time of mikveh I get all the ink and things off.

But it is an interesting phenomenon. Maybe it goes along with all my lost socks...

I've decided Kool-aid should be banned from the homes of all mikvah users. Or at least, only the children are allowed to touch it at all, especially still as powder in the packets. That stuff dies you but good, and only time will take it off! (Unless anyone knows a way to get it off that doesn't involve taking off a layer of skin?)

Anyway, maybe you're just more aware of it at that time? Since when it doesn't matter it doesn't bother you? And it isn't luck, it's all resolved by the time you go to mikvah through Divine Intervention (only half-kidding.)

Oh, sure...add glitter, eating chocolate, nuts, popcorn, and cheese...and any craft or cleaning project to the list.

When we were first married, and I had to toivel right before Pesach, and my kallah teacher taught us that we had to stay as clean as possible the whole time....it almost killed us!

But seriously, whatever you can clean off, comes off - if you can't, it's part of you. You don't have to soak in bleach or make youself sick or crazy over it. If you would go out like that, I was taught, that it's Fine!

it's really not that bad, i guess it's b/c i'm more aware of it. and i just cannot keep my nails clean for anything. my husband is trying to figure out if i play in a sand, er mud box at recess (jk). the first two times i went to mikveh, the attendants were pretty strict, and it started to play on me. I've gotten quite lucky since, i'm more relaxed and make sure to touch anything that could be rough (for my feet) on the mikveh, a pen, and some food which generally causes problems, as soon as possible after toiveling so that i have doubt as to when i got it. i'm careful before, but i'm trying not to make myself more crazy than i need to be. :)

I've found rubbing alcohol will take off kool-aid stains for the most part (I use it to dye my hair sometimes.)
